The PhD student will be hosted in the Mechanistic Molecular Biology group headed by prof Shehab Ismail within the Biochemistry, Molecular and Structural Biology unit at the Chemistry department.

Project

Members of the Ras superfamily of small G-proteins are involved in regulating almost all human cellular processes. With twenty members, Arl proteins comprise the largest group of the Arf family of small G-proteins. Arl proteins have been implicated in diseases and their depletion causes dramatic changes in cell physiology, but their function and regulation remains largely obscureThe PhD student will be part of a team that use biochemistry, structural biology and cell biology approaches to illuminate the function of this crucial but still understudied protein family.
