- The Hearing Technology Lab at Ghent University (BE) is presently looking to hire a PhD student with expertise in audio-signal processing methods for machine-hearing applications. The lab takes a hybrid, computational neuroscience & machine-learning approach to embed the remarkable properties of human hearing into the next-generation applications for assisted hearing, speech recognition & sound localization. You will be part of an international team of researchers (engineers, audiologists) to develop new audio-signal processing technologies on the interface between computational neuroscience and machine-learning. As part of this position, it is expected that you test the performance of your machine-hearing systems against state-of-the-art systems in scientific challenges as well as in sound perception experiments with study participants. Your scientific research interests should align with the topic: “Machine Hearing 2.0: Automatic and individualized bio-inspired hearing technologies (https://tinyurl.com/4meyn9ux) ”.
- The Hearing Technology lab of Prof. Verhulst at WAVES (Dept. of Information Technology) offers an interdisciplinary research environment, and has access to top-notch research facilities, including GPU computation clusters and psychoacoustic test setups (waves.intec.ugent.be/hearing-technology, github/hearing-technology, @HearingTechLab). The lab routinely collaborates with other research groups within the Department, as well as with the UZGent hospital through the Ghent Auditory Science Platform (gasp.ugent.be).
