PhD position for the generation and development of novel therapeutic antibodies/nanobodies

Since over 25 years the Laboratory for Therapeutic and Diagnostic Antibodies focusses on the generation and characterization of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), antibody derivatives, nanobodies and diabodies and application as either therapeutics, diagnostics or research tools. The current position is to strengthen our research related to nanobody discovery and development. The candidate will be exposed to a multitude of aspects of this research: immunization strategies, cloning of nanobody libraries, phage display, biochemical (AlphaScreen, ELISA, …) and cell based (FACS, reporter assays, …) screening techniques, protein expression in different host systems (E.coli, yeast, mammalian cells, …), protein purification, assay development, in vitro and in vivo characterization, nanobody engineering (affinity maturation, sequence optimization, protein fusions,…), etc. Potential research domains are related to innovative methods to improve antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) for cancer therapy, developing novel high throughput nanobody/antibody screening methods, exploring new ways to deliver biologics over the blood-brain barrier, target & drug discovery in Alzheimer’s disease, … The exact project will be defined depending on the candidate’s interest and laboratory’s needs.
