2 - Position description

The Faculty of Engineering, Department Elektrotechniek en energietechniek, is looking for a PhD-student with a doctoral grant

 

More concretely your work package, for the preparation of a doctorate, contains: 

 

ETEC belongs to the Faculty of Engineering and is part of the research group MOBI - Mobility, Logistics and Automotive Technology Research Centre. MOBI is a multidisciplinary team that combines internationally recognized expertise in the fields of electrical and autonomous vehicles, power electronics, propulsion systems or powertrains, environmental impact analyses of vehicle technologies, renewable energy and sustainable mobility, transport and logistics and intermodal transport.  MOBI has grown into a multidisciplinary team of more than 120 employees and has a solid internationally recognized reputation.

 

You will conduct research and teach in the field of power electronics and drivetrains.
  

1.    Research : You participate in the research that is carried out within our ETEC department. 
a.    You specialize in the following topics: power electronics with new transistor technologies with a focus on modularity, control system, energy management systems and drivetrains;
b.    You work/use MATLAB Software and optimization (such as co-design optimization);
c.    You develop advanced cooling system with innovative concepts for modular power electronics concepts;
d.    You work out projects independently;
e.    You are working towards a PhD.

 

2.    Education : To a limited extent, the assignment also includes the coordination and supervision of exercises, practicals and projects (WPO) in course units within the Bachelor of Engineering Science, the Master of Engineering: mechanical-electrical engineering (such as EM and VTT). The concrete assignment is determined annually in consultation with the candidate. Dutch is the language of instruction for part of this WPO of the following courses and English for another part:
- Power Electronics (3BA-NL).
- Measurement Technology (3BA-NL).
- Integrated Practica (3BA-NL).
- Technology project - Kart (2BA-NL).
- Electrical traction (MA-EN)

3.    You present your work at international conferences and publish your work in Q1 and Q2 journals. 
4.    Outreach : you contribute to the activities of the university that aim to recruit students or give you the opportunity to present your research to a wide audience.

 

The effective implementation of the PhD grant is subject to the suspensive condition of enrolling the PhD student as a PhD student at the university.

 

 

For this function, our Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) will serve as your home base. 


3 - Profile

What do we expect from you?

 

You have a master’s degree in Engineering or Industrial Sciences; preferably specialization in power electronics and drivetrains.  

 

You are fluent in Dutch and English.

 

  • You have not performed any works in the execution of a mandate as an assistant, paid from operating resources, over a total (cumulated) period of more than 12 months.

4 - Offer

Are you going to be our new colleague?

 

You’ll be offered a full-time PhD-scholarship, for 12 months (extendable up to max. 48 months, on condition of the positive evaluation of the PhD activities), with planned starting date 01/11/2023

 

You’ll receive a grant linked to one of the scales set by the government.

 

IMPORTANT: The effective result of the doctorate scholarship is subject to the condition precedent of your enrolment as a doctorate student at the university.
