PhD fellowship in translation studies: Heinrich Böll in the Low Countries

Updated: about 2 months ago
Deadline: 20 Jun 2019

The aim of this research project is to examine the place of the German author Heinrich Böll in the literary system(s) of Flanders and the Netherlands. The focus will be on the translation of his prose, the role of the translators and the reception of the work. A clearer picture of the reception of Böll's work can contribute to the better understanding of the literary and intellectual climate in the post-war period until the end of the cold war. In addition, however, the project outlined here also constitutes a generalizable case study of the way in which foreign literatures are incorporated in a new polysystem.

The project fits within the broader framework of the Centre for Reception Studies (CERES), which investigates the reception of literary texts in the broadest sense of the term.
