The Department of Biology in the Faculty of Sciences is looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Proteomics and Protein Biochemistry.

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis.
  • The PhD project will focus on the identification and interactions of proteins in the tip-link complex, a protein complex critical for hearing, localized in the hair bundles of the auditory sensory cells, Many of the proteins involved in this complex remain unknown. By state-of-the art proteomic techniques we want to identify new previously unknown components of these complexes. For some of these newly identified components we want to carry out the biochemical characterization of the involved protein-protein interactions. For this purpose interactions will be verified between co-expressed proteins in cultured cells and the interactions between recombinant proteins will be analyzed (collaboration with the  Laboratory of Medical Biochemistry (LMB)).

  • You will work together with experts from different laboratories at the University of Antwerp and from The Hearing Institute (Institut Pasteur, Paris)
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the Centre for Proteomics and the Biology department.
