The Department of Department heritage studies and conservation-restoration (https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/research-groups/arches/) in the Faculty of Design Sciences is looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of Heritage Sciences

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of built heritage. You will work on green initiatives or green technologies for sustainability in the built heritage environment. The focus is directed towards sustainable practices and design in and on built heritage structures and sites in the light of the European Green Deal. This can include but is not restricted to circularity in built heritage, aiming for a toxic-free environment, reduction of GHG emission, healthy cities and heritage stewardship, all capitalizing on green initiatives and/or climate action.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will collaborate with direct colleagues in het ARCHES Built Heritage research group and with colleagues of different research fields within ARCHES, the Faculty of Design Sciences and beyond.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for Heritage studies and conservation-restoration.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in architecture or engineering or sciences or you will have obtained it by the time you start work.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You demonstrate experience or far-reaching interest in the field of cultural and/or natural heritage.

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed once for another two-year period.
  • The planned start date is 1 October 2021 or as soon as possible after that date.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will do most of your work at Campus Mutsaard based at Blindestraat 9, 2000 Antwerp in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
