The Department of Engineering Management in the Faculty of Business and Economics is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of environmental economics.

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of environmental economics. This PhD project aims to assess the economic feasibility and economic sustainability of decommissioning and recycling of offshore wind farms and assist in preparing the Belgian market for this upcoming challenge. This will be done in cooperation with multiple companies and research institutes. A circular economy perspective will be followed, where resource efficiency is key. Besides studying multiple end-of-life scenarios, also alternative offshore wind farm designs will be assessed from an economic sustainability perspective. From a methodological perspective, this PhD project will dive deeper into the differences and similarities between economic feasibility and economic sustainability.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for the research group of environmental economics (EnvEcon).

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in (Applied) Economics, Business engineering, (Bioscience) engineering (or similar) or you will have obtained it by the time you start to work.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You have an interest in sustainability topics.
  • You enjoy working interdisciplinary.
  • Experience with investment and cost-benefit analyses is not required but a plus.

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed up to 4 years.
  • The start date is planned between 1th  of May 2022 and 1st  of September 2022.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts  for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • You will do most of your work at the Stadscampus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
