The Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts is looking for a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder in the field of bioethics

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of bioethics. We are looking to hire a full-time (100%) doctoral scholarship holder (PhD student) in the field of bioethics to work on ethical aspects of large cohort proteomics and systems medicine trials as part of the research project: Beyond the genome: ethical aspects of large cohort studies.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for department of philosophy.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in law and a specific interest in bioethics. Candidates with a degree in philosophy/ethics and a specific interest in ethical aspects of (clinical) data management and empirical, qualitative research methods are equally welcome to apply.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed for another two years.
  • The planned start date is 1st  of January 2023 or as soon as possible after that date.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts  for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • You will be working at the department of Philosophy of the University of Antwerp, Belgium within the NeuroEpigenEthics group and in close collaboration with the VITO research institute in Mol, Belgium. Belgian residency and/or willingness to attend regular meetings at VITO and at the University of Antwerp will be necessary.
