Doctoral grant in the area of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy

Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of tumor immunology and immunotherapy studying mesothelioma, more specifically you will investigate a novel combination therapy for mesothelioma both in vitro and in vivo.
  • You publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You contribute to teaching and research in the Center for Oncological Research of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in Bioscience Engineering, Biomedical or Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or equivalent.
  • You have outstanding academic results.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies .
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision .
  • You are driven, quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
  • Knowledge of immunology is required.
  • A certificate of Laboratory Animal Science category B/C or equivalent is required.
  • Experience with sterile cell culture, flow cytometry, pathological techniques, molecular assays, in vivo experiments and/or immunoassays is an asset.

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. During these two years you are obliged to submit applications for an external PhD grant. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed once for another two-year period.
  • The planned start date is 1 October 2021 or as soon as possible after that date.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for contract research staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will do most of your work at the Center for Oncological Research (CORE) in the Solid Tumor Immunology Group (STIG) in a dynamic and stimulating working environment (https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/research-groups/core/members/tumor-immunology/ )
