Job profile:
The Department of Experimental Physics at the University of Innsbruck seeks to fill a PhD student position in the Photonics Research Group (Prof. Weihs) by February 1, 2021. This “university assistant” position is initially for 20 hours per week, will be extended to 30 hours per week after you submit your dissertation proposal (as early as you like) and is limited to 4 years. The University of Innsbruck offers a world-class, competitive scientific environment in the fields of quantum optics and quantum information. The Photonics Group focuses on photonic integrated circuits and semiconductor nanostructures for quantum optics and quantum communications tasks.
Main tasks:
In this position, you are expected to pursue research towards your PhD thesis in the area of quantum interferometry. In addition, you will have some teaching duties, tutor students, help with administrative tasks and run outreach activities. Half of your working time is reserved for the thesis work.
Job requirements:
- Master's degree in physics
- good command of English language, willingness to learn German
- knowledge and experience with waveguide optics
- experience in working with lasers and nonlinear optics is advantageous
- ability to work in a team, creative problem solving and communication skills
Salary:
For this position, the minimum gross salary is € 1465/month (20 h/week) or € 2197/month (30h/week) paid 14 times per year. Furthermore, the university offers numerous attractive corporate employee benefits .
