Job profile:

The Department of Experimental Physics  at the University of Innsbruck  seeks to fill a PhD student position in the Photonics Research Group  (Prof. Weihs) as soon as possible. This “university assistant” position is initially for 20 hours per week, will be extended to 30 hours per week after you submit your dissertation proposal and is limited to 4 years. The University of Innsbruck offers a world-class, competitive scientific environment in the fields of quantum optics and quantum information. The Photonics Group  focuses on photonic integrated circuits and semiconductor nanostructures for quantum optics and quantum communications tasks.Main tasks:In this position, you are expected to pursue research towards your PhD thesis in the area of quantum interferometry in quantum photonic integrated circuits. In addition, you will have some teaching duties, tutor students, help with administrative tasks and run outreach activities. Half of your working time is reserved for your thesis work.Job requirements:

  • Master's degree in physics or closely related subject
  • Good command of English language, willingness to learn German
  • Knowledge and experience in experimental quantum optics, ideally with sources of nonclassical light
  • Experience in working with lasers
  • Ability to work in a team, creative problem solving and communication skills

Salary:For this position the minimum gross salary is € 1789/month at 20  h/week // € 2684/month at 30 h/week paid 14 times per year.
