Two new PhD Student Positions in Image Guided Diagnostics and Therapy (# of pos: 2)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 22 Sep 2021

In the IGS group specifically two candidates are sought, for "PhD6: (Semi-)Automatic trajectory planning for multi-probe stereotactic thermal ablation of liver tumors" as well as "PhD10: Fast, non-rigid image fusion using deep learning for treatment evaluation after thermal ablation". The former project will address automatizing trajectory planning of multiple needles, for efficient thermal ablation of abdominal tumors. The overall aim is to develop a (semi-)automatic framework facilitating the planning task of a surgeon for multiple needles, while also improving the quality of the planning and the overall safety for patients. The latter project will aim at new methods for non-rigid image fusion employing deep learning for treatment evaluation after thermal ablation, especially leveraging fast, deep learning approaches for physically-based simulations.

Candidates should have earned a Master or Diploma degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or other related fields. Experience in C/C++ programming is expected, as well as an adequate level in English, both written and spoken.

The search is open immediately (application deadline August 15th); with intended starting date in October 2021. The position is offered on the level of a non-permanent university research student for four years, with internationally competitive salary. Employment will either be at the University of Innsbruck or at the Medical University of Innsbruck.
