Tenure-Track Position in Computer Science with Focus on Human-Computer-Interaction

The Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and

Physics at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck seeks to fill the position of a

Tenure-Track Position in COMPUTER SCIENCEWITH A FOCUS ON HUMAN-COMUTER-INTERACTION

according to § 99(5) University Law, to be filled immediately. A tenure-track position at the

University of Innsbruck enables an academic career up to the level of full tenured professor

(“unbefristete/r Universitätsprofessor/in“).

The tenure-track position is embedded in an attractive environment of existing competencies

close to the field of Human-Computer Interaction. This includes, for example, the research

groups Interactive Graphics and Simulation, Intelligent and Interactive Systems, Networked

Embedded Systems, Data Science, and Quality Engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The holder of the Tenure-Track position shall conduct independent research and teaching in

the area of Human-Computer-Interaction, in areas such as:

- Intelligent and usable user interfaces

- Augmented and mixed reality

- Body-worn sensors and displays

- Multimodal interaction, tangible media

An international orientation, cooperation with international research institutions, as well as

interdisciplinary openness are expected. Furthermore, cooperation with related research areas

and doctoral programs of the university is desired. Opportunities for collaboration with users

from other disciplines, both within and outside the university, should also be exploited. Finally,

collaborations with business and industry should be established and expanded.

Teaching includes giving courses in the study programs of computer science, also in the new

master degree programs in Computer Science and Software Engineering. Furthermore, the

supervision of students as well as (Co-)supervision of final theses is expected.

Participation in academic self-administration in the department and faculty is considered a

matter of course.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

a) A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree and doctorate appropriate to the

    position; in relevant fields such as computer science, mechatronics;

b) PostDoc experience and/or relevant professional experience;

c) Relevant scientific achievements beyond dissertation/PhD, documented in particular by

    publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals and conferences in HCI;

d) Involvement in research projects and in the acquisition of research funds;

e) Involvement in international research, international contacts, and mobility experience

    during or after the PhD;

f) Proven teaching skills and experience in (co-) supervision of students;

g) Teamwork and communication skills;

h) Organizational and management skills.

Relevant experience in collaboration with industry would be an advantage.

FORMAT of the POSITION

The successful applicant will enter a six-years’ work contract on the basis of the

‘Angestelltengesetz’ (Employees Act; extent of employment: 100%) and at the same time

concludes a ‘Qualification Agreement’ according to § 27 of the ‘Kollektivvertrag’ (Austrian

Collective Labor Agreement for university personnel); (s)he will start her/his occupation at

the rank of Assistant Professor.

Once the targets of the ‘Qualification Agreement’ are reached, the position will be tenured,

thus promoting the holder of the position to Associate Professor.

Subsequently, a full professor position according to § 99 (4) of the ‘Universitätsgesetz’

(Austrian University Act) will be opened, for which the Associate Professor is eligible to

apply.

Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck seeks to increase the proportion of female scientists

in the faculty – so that applications from top-qualified female scientists are especially

encouraged. With equal qualification, female applicants will be given priority.

In line with the ‘Kollektivvertrag’ (Austrian Collective Labor Agreement for university personnel)

scientists who have entered a ‘Qualification Agreement’ are in remuneration group A2 with an

initial wage of € 4.666,30 / month (14 times). After fulfillment of the Agreement, the salary rises

to € 5.059,50 / month (14 times). Moreover, the university offers attractive additional benefits

- List of scientific publications, as well as other scientific works and projects;

- Description of completed, ongoing and planned research activities (“research plan”);

-  List of presentations at conferences, as well as research stays;

- Information on past and future teaching activities (“teaching plan”);

- Information on any third-party funding obtained;

- Names and contact information to request at least two references

- List of the five most important papers.

The research and teaching concept must be addressed at a following interview and will

subsequently be the starting point for the negotiation of the qualification agreement.
