Postdoc Position (f*m)
(part-time / 32h per week)
The VID is looking for a postdoc researcher to join the Research Group Demography of Austria for a duration of 2 years.
The researcher will focus on the demography of Austria in a comparative perspective, especially on fertility, families and migration in Austria. Her/his comparative research comprehends both national and international regional comparisons. The researcher should be familiar with large (inter)national data sets. The researcher’s duties include collaboration in the Austrian Generations and Gender Programme (GGP). The researcher will coordinate her/his work closely with other members of the group “Demography of Austria” and within the national GGP-consortium. In addition, she/he will also participate in the further development and analysis of the Austrian Microcensus module on fertility and childbearing intentions.
The researcher will also collaborate on the preparation of new research proposals at the VID and, if successful, on conducting research within these projects.
Your tasks:
- Participate in organisation and preparation of the Austrian GGP, including data quality checks.
- Study fertility, family formation and family dynamics in Austria, in a comparative European perspective.
- Study the impact of COVID-19 on fertility intentions, fertility and family life in Austria, including possible variation by regions and by socio-demographic characteristics.
- Participate in the general work of the RG “Demography of Austria”.
- Develop and coordinate work and research on fertility-related data and databases.
- Conduct research, write and publish papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaborate with other researchers within the group and abroad.
- Collaborate on the preparation of new research proposals at the VID.
Your profile and qualifications:
- PhD in demography, social sciences, statistics, economics or other relevant fields
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and excellent oral and written knowledge of German
- Extensive experience with individual and aggregate-level data, including data quality checking, data processing and quantitative analyses
- Experience with both large national and international data sets (including administrative data)
- Excellent knowledge of quantitative methods, demographic data and indicators
- Experience with relevant statistics programs and packages
- Publication and research track record corresponding to the candidate’s current career stage and publications focusing on fertility, family and social demography in Austria
- Being able to work independently and to collaborate with a broader research team
Earliest start of the employment is August 1, 2021. For this position we offer an annual gross salary of € 39.774,67 according to collective agreement, and the possibility to negotiate according to experience.
