Post-Doctoral position in carbohydrate chemistry

A PostDoc Position in the field of synthetic glycochemistry (organic and carbohydrate chemistry)  is available at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna (in the group of Prof. Zamyatina: https://boku.ac.at/chemie/institut-fuer-organische-chemie-dchoc/arbeitsgruppe-zamyatina )

The work package focuses on the chemical synthesis of novel biologically active carbohydrates and glycoconjugates, chemical glycosylation and chemical synthesis of oligosaccharides, phosphorylated, sulphated and zwitterionic glycans. The project has a strong biological background and is conducted in tight cooperation with the institute of biochemistry (group Prof. Iain Wilson, BOKU).

Candidate profile

  • The applicants should hold a PhD degree in Organic Chemistry (or Bioorganic chemistry).
  • The work is highly synthesis oriented, and it is desirable that a candidate can demonstrate experimental skills in the synthesis of oligosaccharides and glycosides as well as in executing multi-step organic syntheses. Experience in the synthesis of carbohydrates (glycosylation, phosphorylation, protecting group manipulation) is highly advantageous.
  • Strong interest in synthetic organic chemistry, excellent background in common analytical and purification methods (HPLC, MS, NMR), dedication to experimental work and a good command of written and spoken English is required.

We offer:

- working in a well-equipped, innovative and scientifically stimulating surrounding

- demanding, multi-faceted, creative job within a team

- The position is available for 2 years and is within the standard FWF (Austrian Science Fund) salary range for Postdoctoral Fellows under full coverage of the Austrian social security system. Salary and additional benefits are according to FWF standards and the University Collective Agreement.
