The Institute of Molecular Biotechnology at the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria, has an open research positions in the area of photobiocatalysis and enzyme engineering. The Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering team investigates the engineering of enzymes and whole-cell biocatalysts for the development of environmentally-friendly processes. A focal point is the improvement of biocatalysts by directed enzyme evolution. The institute coordinates several European and national research projects and offers thus a dynamic and international environment for research. The research deals with deep mutational scanning and chassis engineering for environmentally-friendly light-driven biocatalytic reactions.

The position is suited for a PhD student and offers the opportunity for further scientific development. Salary will be as a regular research assistant paid according to B1 for 30 h per week. Start date is the May 1st 2022. The position is for one year, with the option for continuation for another three years.

Ideal candidates hold a master degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry or a related discipline and have experience in either enzyme engineering, biocatalysis and the handling and application of cyanobacteria. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in an interdisciplinary topic with a research stay at the laboratory of an international collaboration partner. Thus, high motivation, flexibility and team orientation as well as very good spoken and written English skills are important. Basic knowledge of German is an advantage.
