The Institute of Materials Science, Joining and Forming at TU Graz has an opening for a

PhD Position (m/f/d) in the field of Multi-Material Lightweight Manufacturing

40 hours/week, for 3 years, starting presumably on January 1st, 2022.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Active participation in an international research project on the formability and joinability of hybrid material combinations (steel-wood, aluminum-wood) in vehicle lightweight design
  • Creating finite element models for the simulation of forming and joining processes
  • Preparation and support of material tests, joining- and forming experiments
  • Evaluation and assessment of experimental and numerical results
  • Preparing scientific publications (journals, conferences)
  • Organizational support of the project leader
  • Co-supervision of master and bachelor students
  • Contributing to the general administration and to projects at the institute

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Completed master or diploma study in mechanical engineering, production technology, technical physics, materials science, or similar fields
  • Interested in innovative lightweight concepts for vehicles
  • Skills and experience in the field of finite element modelling and simulation
  • Willingness for preparing a PhD thesis
  • Responsible and independent way of working
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Very good English skills
