A PhD Student position is available to study T cell differentiation at the Institute of Immunology, Medical University of Vienna.
Research Area
T cells are a major component of the adaptive immune system, and CD8+ T cells play a central role for anti-viral and anti-tumor immunity. We aim to understand molecular mechanisms controlling the differentiation processes of CD8+ T cells. We are particularly interested in the function of epigenetic and transcriptional regulators (such as HDAC1 and PATZ1/MAZR) during effector and memory CD8+ T cell differentiation (Gülich et al., Front Immunol. 2021, PMID: 33815354) as well as the generation of “exhausted” CD8+ T cells. The experimental strategies include multi-color flow-cytometry, biochemical and molecular approaches, retroviral-mediated gene transduction into T cells, next generation sequencing and various animal models.
Our offer
The successful candidate will work in a supportive and good working atmosphere of the Division of Immunobiology, Institute of Immunology, Medical University of Vienna. The projects will be under the supervision of Dr. Shinya Sakaguchi. Further information can be found at: http://www.meduniwien.ac.at/immunologie/ellmeier/members.html . The PhD student will be part of the N094 “Immunology” PhD Program of the Medical University of Vienna. The monthly gross salary will be in accordance with the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) rates: https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/research-funding/personnel-costs/ .
Candidate
We are looking for a highly motivated and self-driven student who is enthusiastic about working on fundamental biological questions with implication to clinical problems. You should be a critical scientist with a creative mind and a team player with proficient communication skills.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in life sciences (e.g. biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology) and have documented experience in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture methods. Previous experience with primary T cell cultures, flow cytometry and/or animal experiments is advantageous.
Application
Please send your application including CV, motivation letter, synopsis of master thesis and contact information of referee(s) as a single pdf to the following address (subject heading “Application for PhD Position”): [email protected] . Informal enquiries are welcome.
Application Deadline: 15 March, 2022.
Short-listed candidates will be invited for Zoom interviews and/or personal interviews. The position is available from April 2022 onwards.
