PhD candidate in network analysis of animal movement data and infectious disease epidemiology

We are looking for an excellent young scientist with a master’s degree or equivalent in statistics, physics, data science, biology, veterinary science, or related fields to join the Unit of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (Vetmeduni), Austria.

Ideally, you already have experience in data mining and/or network analysis and/or infectious disease modelling and are eager to extend your knowledge in these fields and beyond. The candidate must have a critical, open-minded and collaborative spirit.

We offer a fully funded 4-year PhD position in an internationally renowned research group located in Vienna, Austria. In this project, your main objective will be to analyze livestock (pig) movement data to inform and facilitate the design of risk-based and more effective disease surveillance and control programs in Austria.
