Offer Description

The Organic Chemistry Group of Prof. Bonifazi in the Faculty of Chemistry is currently seeking candidates for PhD student positions with research experience in organic chemistry.

Offer:

We are thrilled to announce a fully-funded PhD position in our groundbreaking research program focusing on the development of artificial organic light-harvesting systems for solar energy conversion into chemical products. The research activities are framed in the recently funded Cluster of Excellence initiative, entitled MECS (Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage), sponsored by FWF. (Website: http://coe-mecs.at/WP/ )

Join our dynamic team of researchers and be part of a transformative project that aims to pioneer the creation of molecular antennas by grafting chromophores onto concentric circular peptide templates. This unique approach, achieved through specific, orthogonal dynamic covalent bond formation, will organize the antennas at the mesoscale, imitating the disposition of chromophores in natural light-harvesting systems. By capitalizing on this annular arrangement, energy transfer from the fringe to the core of the assembly will be optimized, facilitating the integration with catalytic moieties to trigger organic chemical transformations and advancing real possibilities for renewable energy applications. We are seeking ambitious and creative individuals with a strong background in organic chemistry and chemical synthesis. Candidates with a passion for innovative research and a keen interest in targeted oriented synthesis, photochemistry and renewable energy technologies are highly encouraged to apply.

Who we are:

The Bonifazi group (https://bonifazi-group.univie.ac.at/ ), led by Prof. Bonifazi is situated within the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna. Our group focuses on ambitious targeted organic synthesis, carbon-based nanostructure chemistry and self-assembly and self-organisation studies. Our primary objective is to develop practical access to functional organic architectures with tailored properties, enabling the application in real world-technologies.As a PhD student in the Bonifazi group, you will have the opportunity to work at the intersection of organic synthesis, physical organic chemistry and cutting-edge applications, fostering collaborations with both academic and industrial partners and be part of an international team.
