The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and assist women to enter, re-enter and achieve leadership roles across the financial services industry.
The Financial Planning Association ® (FPA®) is the primary membership organisation for financial planning practitioners who want to master the practice of financial planning, and who are committed to shaping the future of the profession.
As part of this continued commitment to excellence and with support from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Office for Women, FPA wish to provide meaningful equity opportunities for our students in pursuing finance and economics education.
This scholarship is open to both part-time and full-time students enrolled in an eligible course.
Courses eligible
The following On-campus or Swinburne Online courses:
- Bachelor of Accounting with the following Major:
- Accounting and Financial Planning
- Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Business (Professional) with one of the following Majors:
- Financial Planning
- Accounting and Financial Planning
- Finance
- Accounting and Finance
- Bachelor of Business Information Systems/ Bachelor of Business with one of the following Majors:
- Financial Planning
- Finance
- Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning
- Master of Finance
Eligibility / selection criteria
To be eligible for the Women in Finance and Economics Scholarship Program, applicants must:
- Meet the following criteria:
- identify as female
- Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident
- Meet the following enrolment criteria:
- be a first year commencing Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2023
- enrolled part-time or full-time in an eligible on-campus or online course (see courses eligible in section above)
- Demonstrate and provide evidence of financial hardship and/or disadvantage. Disadvantage may include, but is not limited to:
- financial difficulty or low income (Centrelink statements, childcare fees, carer responsibilities, payslips)
- low socio-economic status
- re-entering the workforce
- mature age (50 years of age plus) or young age (between 16 and 35 years old)
- residing in a rural or remote area
- identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- new migrant
- intending to upskill or refresh skills in financial services in order to achieve leadership positions in the profession
- Submit a personal statement (500 words) addressing:
- educational disadvantage
- commitment to study, including sound academic ability, career aspirations and a strong potential to complete the degree within minimum time; and
- benefit that the scholarship will provide
Value
Tuition fee waiver for the first year of the course to the value of:
- Undergraduate - $5,000
- Postgraduate - $5,000
Alternatively, the funds can be applied as a travel bursary (approved by the FPA) for travel related to financial services internships.
There are six (6) scholarships available and the funds must be expended in 2023.
