What you'll receive

$15,000 in funding will be apportioned to eligible applicants as follows:

  • Two undergraduate scholarships worth $3,000:
    • paid at a rate of $1,000 per business unit, allocated directly to fees
    • for a maximum of three business units enrolled in Semester 2, 2023
    • for students enrolled full-time in a single business degree.
  • Two undergraduate scholarships worth $2,000:
    • paid at a rate of  $1,000 per business unit, allocated directly to fees
    • for a maximum of two business units enrolled in Semester 2, 2023
    • for students enrolled full-time in a double business degree.
  • One postgraduate scholarship worth $2,000:
    • paid at a rate of $1,000 per business unit, allocated directly to fees
    • for a maximum of two business units enrolled in Semester 2, 2023
    • for a student enrolled in a postgraduate business degree.
  • Four undergraduate/postgraduate conference bursaries worth $500:
    • paid upon presentation of receipts for registration and travel expenses for a local or interstate event (membership will be considered on a case by case basis).
  • One undergraduate/postgraduate conference bursary worth $1000 (this may not fully fund travel) to attend the FAAA three-day congress in Adelaide in November, 2023.

Tuition fee sponsorships and conference bursaries may be awarded to different recipients.

The selection panel reserves the right to apportion the funding using a 'best fit' approach to the profile of the applicant pool.


Eligibility
Undergraduate applicants

You must:

  • be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa, and
  • be a female who is commencing full-time study at university in a finance-related degree for the first time, in Semester 1 or 2, 2023 (prior studies in an unrelated field is allowed), and
  • be admitted into an undergraduate single or double business degree, and
  • be undertaking a major in financial planning, finance, economics, behavioural economics or accounting
  • have a proven track record of academic completion from high school or vocational education, with pass marks/competency.

Postgraduate applicants

You must:

  • be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa, and
  • be a female who is commencing their first finance-related postgraduate degree in Semester 1 or 2, 2023, and
  • be admitted into a Graduate Diploma or Master of Business with a full or part-time study load, and
  • be undertaking a major in financial planning, applied finance or professional accounting
  • have a proven track record of academic completion from undergraduate level study, with a GPA of 4.5 or above on transcript.

Applicants who can also demonstrate one or more intersecting sources of disadvantage (via a written statement and documentary evidence) will gain additional consideration, including but not limited to:

  • financial need due to personal hardship circumstances (eg. carer responsibilities, illness, disability, childcare fees, loss of business etc)
  • re-entering the workforce
  • low socio-economic status
  • mature age (50 years of age plus) or young age (between 16 and 35 years old)
  • residing in a rural or remote area
  • Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander only)
  • new migrant.

If you are completing this form using a QUT library computer, local council library computer, or any computer on a network that requires login credentials (username and password), you will need to finalise your application in one sitting.  You will need to have scanned and saved your required documents to a USB or the computer being used, ready for upload. Networked computers do not allow cookies which otherwise save information uploaded to online forms.


What happens next?

Applications will be assessed based on merit and equity considerations in a competitive process.


Conditions

As a scholarship recipient you must:

  • maintain enrolment in the business degree nominated in your application, for the full duration of Semester 1 and 2, 2023
  • enrol in at least two discipline units pertaining to the finance-related major in Semester 2, 2023
  • maintain the required study load in Semester 2, 2023 that is specified in the scholarship eligibility requirements for your course level
  • achieve a minimum GPA of 4.0 and pass all units at the end of Semester 1, 2023
  • maintain an academic record free of misconduct
  • complete a survey for the scholarship sponsor at the end of Semester 2, 2023 to identify the benefit derived from the program.

If you receive the conference bursary, you must also:

  • provide official documentation from the industry event/association/ conference organisers showing the event program, registration and travel expenses, for the approval of Financial Advice Association of Australia (FAAA).
  • if attendance is approved, provide receipts for reimbursement of event costs paid up-front to a maximum of $500 (or $1,000 for the Financial Advice Association of Australia (FAAA) conference).
  • complete a report or survey at the conclusion of the conference/event, to identify the benefit derived from the experience.

The Financial Advice Association of Australia (FAAA)® is Australia’s leading professional association for the financial advice profession, and advocates for the interests of financial advisers and their clients across the country.

It is this commitment to the profession, together with funding from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Office for Women, that inspires FAAA to provide equitable opportunities for women looking for a career in the sector.

This scholarship, now it is second year of offering, is one such opprtunity. Female university students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate finance degrees are supported to complete their studies to achieve greater representation of women in the financial services sector.
