University of Adelaide Research Scholarship - The Elder Conservatorium of Music

Applications are invited for a scholarship leading to the degree of PhD at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide 

The scholarship is supported by the Faculty of Arts and is part of an Australian Research Council Linkage/Discovery Project, LP200300899: Rebooting the Muse: Post-COVID-19 sustainability in the performing arts(Chief Investigator: Associate Professor Anna Goldsworthy).

Dr Luke Harrald, who will supervise the successful candidate’s research, is interested in immersive sound and media, and networked performance.  The broader ARC project focuses on how new and existing technologies might be adapted to create new approaches to creative work for artists and arts organisations, and new experiences for audiences in the wake of the disruption to the arts sector from the COVID-19 pandemic.  Partners include the Light Cultural Foundation, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, State Theatre Company, Patch Theatre, and the Illuminate Adelaide Festival.

The HDR candidate’s project is expected to be in the field of Music Technology or Digital Media with a focus on immersive media and / or networked performance.

Eligibility:

Applicants will have a minimum of Honours 2A result or equivalent in Music Technology or a Digital Media discipline, and must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia, citizens of New Zealand, or permanent humanitarian visa holders at the time of application.

Stipend:

The scholarship will be for three years’ full-time study, with a stipend of $28,854 per annum (2022 rate) for up to 3 years (indexed annually). It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval. The successful candidate will be eligible to receive funding from the grant to attend 1 national/international conferences in addition to being able to apply for other University of Adelaide HDR funds for which postgraduate students are eligible.
