University of Adelaide Research Scholarship – Centre for Sustainable Operations & Resilient Supply Chains (CSORSC) - Govindan

This University of Adelaide Research Scholarship is offered to support a full-time PhD student commencing doctoral research in Managing Supply Chain Resilience and Sustainability. The successful student must commence studies in Adelaide as soon as possible and no later than 31 December 2024.

The Ph.D. project explores a critical area of research focusing the redesign the supply chain to effectively manage disruptions, thereby fostering supply chain resilience and sustainability by integrating the following topics:

(1) Developing strategies for enhancing Supply chain Resilience by drawing lessons from various disruptions such as Brexit, the US-China trade war, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Suez Canal blockage, the Russia- Ukraine conflicts, the Israel- Gaza conflicts, and Red sea attacks;

(2) Exploring the influence of digitalization in enhancing supply chain resilience, viability, sustainability, and adaptability;

(3) Analyzing supply chain resilience within the context of multi-tier supply chain and addressing the mitigation of various supply chain tensions.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be eligible to enrol as candidates for a Ph.D. degree at the University of Adelaide. The potential candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • The successful candidate should hold a bachelor's and master's degree related to one of the following areas: Industrial Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering relevant to Operations and Supply Chain Management.
  • Candidates with a bachelor's and master's degree in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Information Technology will also be considered, but it will further be required that they also have a strong interest in operations and supply chain management background.
  • Knowledge and experience of simulation and optimization methods would enhance the qualifications.
  • In addition, experience in various research methodologies (i.e. quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches) would enhance the qualifications.

Stipend:

The scholarship will be for 3.5 years and has a stipend of $34,210 (2024 rate, indexed annually) per annum.  It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.
