Australia Awards Scholarship

Australia Awards Scholarship is provided by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and is available to students from developing countries to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities, including the Griffith University.

Australia Awards usually open in February and close in April each year.

International students can apply for this scholarship. Various study areas are applicable.  

Benefits: In general, these are fully funded scholarships providing generous benefits: full tuition fees, pre-course English language course (if required), return air travel, and fieldwork travel for students undertaking research, a one-off establishment allowance and a fortnightly living stipend, health insurance and academic support.

Griffith Remarkable Scholarship

Griffith Remarkable Scholarship rewards exceptional students applying for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degree programs at Griffith University.

This scholarship offers 50% of tuition fees.  

Eligibility:

- Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.

- Have a minimum GPA in previous studies of 5.5 or above on a 7-point scale or equivalent. 

- Have applied to study at Griffith by the scholarship application closing date.

- Satisfy all academic and English language entry requirements for your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program.

- Be a full-time student starting next year.

How to apply:

The application process is: 

- First, apply to study an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at Griffith University.

- Then you apply for the scholarship by the closing date. You will need to include academic records and a personal statement.

A University panel will review your application.

Griffith Uni will let you know the outcome of your application.


Deans Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship

The Deans Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship offers a maximum value is $60,000, paid in installments. Installments of $6,000 are payable for each full-time enrolled trimester, up to a maximum value of the scholarship or minimum duration of the degree, whichever is the lesser.


Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship

The Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship offers a maximum value is $24,000, paid in installments. Installments of $3,000 are payable for each full-time enrolled trimester, up to a maximum value of the scholarship or minimum duration of the degree, whichever is the lesser.


International Student Academic Excellence Scholarship and International Student Academic Merit Scholarship offer scholarships to outstanding or high-achieving international students applying for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs at Griffith University.

The International Student Academic Excellence Scholarship offers a 25% tuition fee. 

The International Student Academic Merit Scholarship offers 20% off tuition fees.

Eligibility:

To be eligible you must:

- Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.

- Have a minimum GPA in previous studies of 5.5 or above on a 7-point scale or equivalent for the Academic Excellence Scholarship or 5.0 to 5.49 on a 7-point scale or equivalent for the Academic Merit Scholarship. 

- Satisfy all academic and English language entry requirements for your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program.

- Be a full-time student starting this year or next year.

You don't need to apply for the scholarship separately. 

How to apply: 

  • Apply to study an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at Griffith University.
  • Griffith will assess your application for eligibility.
  • If you are successful we will advise you in your Letter of Offer, in Tuition and other fees and Additional information.


Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship GUIPRS and the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) International Fee Offset Scholarship cover tuition fees for the applicant for up to three years for doctoral candidates and up to two years for research masters candidates. 

In addition, the scholarships cover Overseas Student Health Cover for the applicant and any dependant/s for the duration of the scholarship.

Eligibility: scholarships are available to international applicants who are commencing or enrolled in a research program (for which RTP support is available). 


Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GUPRS) and  Australian Government Research Training Program Stipend Scholarship provide a living allowance of AUD $29,863 (2023 rate, indexed annually) per annum — paid as a fortnightly stipend, and a relocation allowance. Sick leave, parental leave, and leave of absence provisions also apply. 

Eligibility: To be eligible for consideration for the award of a Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship, applicants must be commencing or enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research program (for which RTP support is available) at Griffith University. Applicants must not be receiving income from another source to support their general living costs that provide a benefit greater than 75% of the stipend.

How to apply for research scholarships at Griffith University:

1. Choose a research program that is offered at Griffith

2. Search Griffith scholarships:  you can refer back to the scholarships that I already explained in previous slides to decide which one you want to apply 

3. Choose a research topic: you need to clarify your chosen area of study and identify a research area and/or research question. You will need to articulate its importance, and in consultation with your supervisory team, prepare a research proposal to submit.

4. Find and connect with a research supervisor: To find a supervisor, explore the Griffith Experts page or contact the HDR convenor for the relevant school or department in your area of interest. Once you’ve found a researcher who you would like to work with, you’ll need to contact them directly to discuss your research proposal. It is crucial to look at the alignment between supervision and your project.

5. Gather required documents: Use Griffith application checklist to ensure you have all the documents you require to apply, including a CV that uses Griffith CV template.

6. Apply online: Once you have all of your required documents, apply online through the application portal. You’ll be guided through the step-by-step application process to upload your supporting documentation, and nominate your referees and supervisors.


There are also some other high-value scholarships for particular fields at Griffith University such as: 

- Lord David Puttnam Scholarship for Producers for Masters of Screen Production at Griffith Film School. The recipient will have 50% of tuition fees paid each trimester enrolled in the Masters of Screen Production at Griffith Film School.

- John Willett International Scholarship for Master of Global Development within the Griffith Business School. The John Willett International Scholarship will offer a 50% tuition fee waiver for a maximum period of two years for the selected recipient to complete their Master of Global Development at Griffith. This will provide an opportunity for the recipient to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote global sustainable development.
