The Yakai Bursary

The Yakai (Kaurna meaning ‘help’) Bursary is a financial assistance payment which seeks to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in any program of study at the University of Adelaide.

To be eligible a student must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and currently be enrolled in a program of study on a full time basis. Applications will be assessed on the basis of financial need, and intended use of scholarship funds (i.e. an outline of how these funds will support your studies).

Applicants must be able to demonstrate financial need and be able to provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.

Examples of study support include purchase of study materials, printing, binding, conference attendance, travel/accommodation, assistance during placements, and other incidental costs.

Students receiving the Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (ICECS) are not eligible for this Bursary.
