The MH & MF Joyner Scholarships

The late Millie Hay Joyner passed away on 13 February 1993 leaving a will providing for a number of educational scholarships. Applications are invited for the Joyner Scholarships in Law, Fine Arts, Medicine and Science tenable at the three South Australian Universities. The Scholarships are available to support full-time study leading to the degree of PhD (Doctor of Philosophy).  Scholarships are subject to funding and each discipline specific scholarship may not be available each year.

Note:For 2023 commencement at the University of Adelaide, only the Joyner Scholarship in Law will be available.   All information below is specific to 2023 commencement only.

Eligibility: Applicants must be domestic students who are accepted to commence enrolment in a PhD program in the discipline of Law. Applicants should hold, or expect to hold a First Class Honours degree or equivalent thereof.  

Stipend: The living allowance for the Law scholarship will be 10% above the base stipend applying to Research Training Program Scholarships.  Support will continue for up to three years subject to satisfactory academic progress.   Full details of the terms, conditions and benefits can be found in the relevant rules attached below.

Applying: The awards are allocated as part of the Major Round of scholarship applications.  When open, applications must be submitted using the Online Application Form available at: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/graduate-research/future-students/how-to-apply

Applicants applying for Research Training Program scholarships will be automatically considered and eligible applications will be forwarded to the Joyner Scholarships selection committee for consideration.

Applications must be lodged with the University offering the degree in which the applicant intends to enrol.
