Overview

The Droga Indigenous Architecture Scholarship Program has been established to develop meaningful representation in Australian architecture of Indigenous professionals. The Scholarship aims to support a thriving Indigenous contribution to architectural culture and production, representing approaches to issues of design, construction, sustainability and landscape.


Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and provide either:
    • a Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation; or
    • a UTS Statutory Declaration form accompanied by two written references from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people from the applicant’s community who can confirm their identity and are not an immediate family member; and
  • For undergraduate students:
    • continuing enrolment in the Bachelor of Design in Architecture having completed no more than 48 credit points, or
    • be commencing full-time enrolment in the Bachelor of Design in Architecture (single or combined), providing a copy of their high school report showing subjects studied and, if available, a school reference; and
    • be under 25 years of age at the commencement of the relevant year.
  • For Masters students:
    • commencing the Masters of Architecture with a GPA of 4.25 or above in the undergraduate degree that formed their basis of admission; or
    • continuing enrolment in the Masters of Architecture having:
      • completed no more than 36 credit points, and
      • achieved a Weighted Average Mark of 50 or above in their Masters subjects undertaken to date; and
    • An academic reference.
  • All applicants must provide a curriculum vitae.
  • Applicants must apply using the UTS online Scholarships Application form to be eligible.
  • Applicants must be available to attend an interview in person, if required.

Selection process

As demonstrated in the Scholarship application and interview:

  • Passion and talent for architecture; and
  • Motivation and interest in pursuing a career in architecture using innovative thinking and exceptional problem-solving skills; and
  • Initiative to seek opportunities to continually advance their professional and personal lives; and
  • Circumstances impacting the applicant’s ability to support themselves and how receipt of the scholarship will assist their academic success; and
  • Commitment to benefiting the Indigenous community through architectural culture and production in line with the purpose of the scholarship may also be taken into account.
