The successful scholarship recipient will join Professor Cliff Goddard’s research group based at Griffith University, Nathan Campus, Brisbane. The group (informally known as ‘NSM Lab’) is part of the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research (GCSCR).


The selection of applicants for higher degree research (HDR) scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background. In addition to general eligibility requirements (see below),

Expressions of interest are welcome from domestic and international applicants with a familiarity with NSM semantic analysis and willingness to work within this framework

Desirable attributes include experience with corpus-assisted lexical semantic analysis and skills with relevant digital technology.

Applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, a Bachelors degree with Honours equivalent to First Class Honours or a Masters degree (AQF Level 9) incorporating a significant research component in Linguistics in accordance with Schedule One of the HDR Scholarship Policy . The 2022 Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship has an annual stipend of AU$28,854 (indexed) for a period of up to three years of full-time study. This amount should be sufficient for living expenses. There is no requirement or expectation that the PhD scholar undertakes any teaching duties. A successful International applicant will be awarded a Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship to cover tuition fees for up to three years. Please see the GUIPRS Conditions of Award for more information.

PhD candidates can access Griffith's regular post-confirmation funding support ($4,500 for approved doctoral project expenses). Other expenses may be covered by the ARC project funding.
