This scholarship is funded by Swinburne Accounting Alumni to provide financial support to an eligible undergraduate second year student to continue their studies.
The scholarship is valued at a total of $20,000 over 2 years ($10,000 per year) and is aimed at supporting students who are, or have been, experiencing disadvantages (either personal or financial). The scholarship is an integral component of the Accounting Futures Fund in that it aims to promote and raise interest in accounting and allied disciplines at Swinburne University of Technology.

The following undergraduate business courses (including double degrees) offered by Swinburne University of Technology:
- Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Business (Professional) - Majoring in the following only:
- Accounting
- Accounting and Finance
- Accounting and Financial Planning
- Finance
- Financial Planning
- Information Systems
- Bachelor of Accounting
- Bachelor of Business Information Systems
- Bachelor of Accounting and Business Information Technology (Professional)
- Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology
Eligibility / selection criteria
To be eligible for the Bruce McDonald Accountancy Alumni Scholarship, applicants must:
- Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Resident with Humanitarian Visa.
- be a continuing second year student in Semester 1, 2024
- enrolled full-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
- Examples of financial hardship or low-socio economic status (but not limited to):
- Centrelink statement
- Payslips can be used if an explanation is provided in a personal statement
- Examples of personal hardship (but not limited to):
- disability or medical condition (e.g. medical documents, letter from GP)
- delay or interruption to career or studies because of family responsibilities or illness (e.g. explained in personal statement and/or medical evidence)
- relocation from a rural or regional area in order to undertake tertiary study (e.g. explained in personal statement and/or lease agreement etc.)
- English as a second language (e.g. explained in personal statement and/or IELTS)
- identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (e.g. explained in personal statement etc.)
- First in family to attend university (e.g. statutory declaration)
- extra-curricular service to the community
- sporting participation
- and/or leadership qualities
- why you should be awarded the scholarship
- outlining your passion for a career in Accounting and/or Business
- your future aspirations (both career and future career)
- Academic reference - from a person qualified to comment on academic studies, such as a subject coordinator, school principal, etc.
- Character reference - from a person competent to supply a character reference such as a current or past employer.
Value
This scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year, for up to two years.
