About This Opportunity 

The Principal Research Project Officer is responsible for overseeing the developmental, administrative and coordination aspects of the emerging UQ Sport Research Network. Working under broad direction, the position is also responsible for performing a range of activities to provide guidance to the UQ Sport Research working group and support the organizational leadership of the UQ Centre for Studies in Olympics and Paralympics.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Administration

  • Under broad direction from the working group, collate, draft, edit, and finalise a UQ sport research capabilities statement, identifying scope and breadth of sport research expertise and opportunities for collaboration.

  • Provide administrative support to the UQ Sport Research working group and eventually other committees and parties that are formed as the Network matures.

  • Assist with the establishment of a leadership and governance structure for the UQ Centre for Olympic and Paralympic Studies. Assist leadership and structure with the operations of the Centre.

  • Develop a detailed work plan including key milestones, budget and communication plans.

  • Assist with project managing development of new sports-related curricula and programs in collaboration with academics and industry/student targets.

  • Identify and assist in securing external funding for the network.

  • Manage the scheduling and work with content contributors to ensure timely development of resources in accordance with agreed milestones.

  • Analyse and prepare data for presentation via appropriately formatted tables, graphs, and other data visualisation tools.

  • Coordinate meetings with external stakeholders.

Research

  • Identify and collect data on similar networks (and their activities) at other universities globally, nationally and locally and provide a benchmarking report on these networks.

  • Identify potential local, national and international stakeholders in the sport sciences, sport business, community sports and sport economics, sports law and sport tourism industries.

  • Provide research assistance to working party members.

  • Identify opportunities for, and assist with the development of, proposals for funding.

Engagement

  • Liaise with diverse internal (UQ) and external stakeholders (e.g., researchers, administrators, sport industry, business, charitable organisations, IOC, Paralympics Australia, government, UQ alumni, other universities, potential students).

  • Organize and manage stakeholder events.

  • Assist with UQ marketing to develop and track marketing programs and communications for the Centre.

Additional/Project Management

  • Develop, manage, and facilitate the collection, analysis, and reporting of qualitative and quantitative data, for example via focus groups, interviews and surveys.

  • Recruit and supervise student and staff participants in the collection of required data.

  • Align operational activities with objectives, track outcomes and provide regular reports on the progress of the Centre and Sports Research Network.

  • Attend and facilitate meetings as required.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

About You  

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Principal Research Project Officer to support the emerging UQ Sport Research Network. The successful candidate will have significant experience and expertise in project management along with the following:

Essential

  • Undergraduate degree with at least four (4) years subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to work in broad teams with diverse experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in the preparation of project planning documentation and presentations.

  • High level skills in writing and document design, editing and proofreading, and online and face-to-face learning contexts.

  • Demonstrated well developed computer literacy and proficiency in the production of high-level work using software such as Microsoft Office applications and specified University software, with the capability and willingness to learn new packages as appropriate.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders by telephone, email, and in person.

  • Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to set goals, develop workload priorities, meet timelines, and to manage multiple and diverse tasks effectively.

  • Ability to be self-directed, work independently, and to also contribute effectively as part of a team, displaying initiative and motivation to achieve specified goals, whilst remaining flexible with changing priorities and tight deadlines.

  • Strong networks across sports and government sectors and external engagement experience.

  • Track record in fundraising.

  • Commitment to upholding the University’s values, and with the outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness and integrity.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in or with sport.

  • Demonstrated commitment to responding to internal and external stakeholder needs, including industry partners.

What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time (1FTE) fixed-term position for 2 years at HEW Level 7. 

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $90,538 - $98,719 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $105,929 - $115,501 per annum.
