The Scott Williams Foundation Business Teaching Scholarship aims to support USC Master of Teaching students, with genuine need of support, who plan to teach business studies at secondary school or in a similar environment.
Entrepreneurship and business are the engine room of regional development. Business owners create jobs, support local industry, and keep wealth and spending in the community. Through his own career and business mentoring experience, Scott Williams AM has observed the multiplier effect that successful local businesses can have in regional communities. Since 2016, the Scott Williams Foundation Study Support Bursary has supported many USC Bachelor of Business students to complete their degree with the aim of equipping recipients to succeed in business, so they may in turn become employers and contributors in their community.
In considering additional avenues to achieve this objective, Mr Williams acknowledges that many businesses are started by people who do not go to university (e.g. trades and many retail and hospitality businesses). These individuals might be impacted and benefit greatly on their journey by a good business studies teacher while at school. A passionate teacher can both motivate students to start their own business and equip them with the basic skills required to be successful. Such a teacher could reach many students during their teaching career.
The scholarship will be paid in $2,000 lump sum payments each semester for up to three semesters following confirmation of enrolment at census.
Short-listed applicants will be asked to provide a resume and cover letter and will be invited to a selection panel meeting for this scholarship.
Please Note: This scholarship is offered on a yearly basis through funds provided by an external donor. If funding is not available in any given year, the scholarship will not be awarded.
