Summary

The Schiavon Journalism Research Scholarship was established with a gift from May and Romeo Schiavon and is awarded to graduate researchers who are commencing the Doctor of Philosophy – Arts in the field of Journalism. Preference is given to candidates with industry experience.

Benefits

This scholarship provides:

• A fortnightly stipend with a rate of $41,100 per year (2027 pro-rata full-time rate) for up to 3.5 years. The stipend may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, parenting and partner leave
• Relocation grant of $2000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3000 for students moving from outside Australia
• Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single membership for students who require a student visa to study in Australia.

Eligibility and selection criteria
Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

• Have received an offer for the Doctor of Philosophy – Arts commencing in the year for which the scholarship is awarded
• Be undertaking research in the field of Journalism.

Selection criteria

The scholarship is offered to the eligible candidate(s) ranked highest by the selection panel based on their application and course entry score.

Conditions

This scholarship is subject to the University’s Graduate Research Scholarship Terms and Conditions and can be deferred to the following academic year with prior approval from the University. In addition, recipients must Agree to the University sharing their name and course details with the donor of their scholarship and provide a note of appreciation or a brief report on the benefits of the scholarship if requested.
