Rusk JD Scholarship

Open to current domestic Juris Doctor student or an enrolling domestic student who intends to undertake the Juris Doctor who can demonstrate an interest and commitment in furthering the mutual understanding and connections between Australia and the United States of America. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need.

  • Eligibility & selection criteria
    Eligibility

    To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

    Enrolling Students:

    • Be accepted to commence study in the Melbourne JD; and
    • Have included a 300-word statement on demonstrating an interest and commitment in furthering the mutual understanding and connections between Australia and the United States of America
    • Have applied through Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) under the 'Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances' category and satisfied GAM eligibility criteria; and
    • Juris Doctor applicants must supplement their application by completing the Disadvantaged socioeconomic circumstances-Supplementary form, which includes an additional 750-word statement, and income & expenses summaries; and
    • Applicants must substantiate their claims with relevant, third-party verified, documentation such as pay slips, Centrelink statements, etc.

    Current Students:

    • Be admitted to the Juris Doctor course at Melbourne Law School.
    • Provide a 300-word statement demonstrating an interest and commitment to furthering the mutual understanding and connections between Australia and the United States of America.
    • Submit an online Student Financial Assessment form and applications will be assessed and ranked by Scholarships & Bursaries (University Services) using the Student Financial Assessment process.

    Selection criteria

    Scholarships are awarded to candidates with the highest level of financial need and the highest commitment to furthering the mutual understanding and connections between Australia and the United States of America.

    Note: Current students who wish to be eligible for scholarships that consider financial need must submit the University of Melbourne’s Financial Assessment Form prior to submitting their application for Melbourne Law School scholarships.


  • Application process

    Enrolling Students: Apply for the Juris Doctor through Graduate Access Melbourne under the Disadvantage socio economic circumstances category, and

    Provide a 300-word statement demonstrating an interest and commitment to furthering the mutual understanding and connections between Australia and the United States of America

    Current Students: Applicants must submit an application with Melbourne Law School during the application period:

    Only one application is required - applicants do not need to submit individual applications for each available scholarship.


  • When will I know the outcome?

    Enrolling Students:  Recipients will receive an outcome with their admission offer.

    Current Students: Recipients will receive their outcome approximately one month after applications close.
