Revealing ancient decision-making by applying digital archeology to rock art placement

You will be working with  Dr Andrea Jalandoni , a pioneering Digital  Archaeologist specializing in rock art recording and enhancement using photogrammetry and other remote sensing techniques including lidar and unmanned aerial systems. She  has almost 20 years of archaeological experience in Australia, Southeast Asia, and Micronesia working on some of the most famous World Heritage Sites like Kakadu National Park (NT), Niah Cave (Malaysia), and Nan Madol (Pohnpei).

Andrea is a Senior Research Fellow at Griffith Centre for Social and  Cultural Research, starting an ARC Discovery Early Career Fellowship in mid-2024.

The selection of applicants for the award of higher degree research scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background. The successful candidate will have a background in spatial sciences, archaeology, cultural heritage, anthropology, remote sensing, data science or related discipline. You will ideally have or desire experience in remote fieldwork, data collection, analysis, creating digital products, and writing.

The selection of applicants for the award of higher degree research scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background. To be successful in this role, you must be able to develop technical laboratory and methodology skills, data analysis, and scientific writing.

• Applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, a bachelors degree with honours equivalent to first class honours or a Masters degree (AQF Level 9) incorporating a significant research component of a standard comparable to a bachelor honours degree or be regarded by Griffith University as having an equivalent level of attainment in accordance with Schedule One of the HDR Scholarship Procedure .  For further information on the eligibility requirements for the program refer here .

The 2024 Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship has an annual stipend of $33,480 (indexed) for a period of up to three years of full-time study. Please see the GUPRS Conditions of Award for more information.
