  • Commencement Salary: $71,205 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)

About the Role

We have multiple opportunities available for energetic and customer focussed librarians across the metropolitan campuses of UniSA’s Library Service, including in after hours roles.

The Reference Librarian team is a cross functional team that assists in supporting the teaching, learning and research activities of the University in various service areas of the Library. As the Reference Librarian, you will work closely with students, academics and professional staff, to support the teaching, learning and research activities of the University.

The continuing Reference Librarian role will work over an 8.30am – 6pm rostered span of hours.

In addition to, we have two vacancies for Reference Librarian: After Hours on fixed term contracts until December 2023. The Reference Librarian: After Hours will support the UniSA Online project in support of UniSA Online Students and course delivery. Through the Ask the Library (ATL) service, you will provide advice and expertise in information discovery, digital resource navigation, assignment and referencing support. The span of hours may vary between 8am and 12am midnight.

About UniSA Library

The University of South Australia Library supports the University’s teaching, learning and research mission through the provision of relevant information resources and associated services. The Library also coordinates copyright for the University. There are four campus libraries located at City East, City West, Magill and Mawson Lakes and an off-campus Library Service that supports regional engagement at Whyalla and Mt Gambier. Information technology and information resource management services are managed from the Mawson Lakes campus.

The Library operates in an environment of increasing availability of digital information in support of the University’s Digital Learning Strategy. As such, it has accelerated its commitment to acquire the vast majority of resources in digital format which are accessible and discoverable via an established next generation Library Management System. The Library has a growing research collection with over 700,000 ebooks and online journals available anytime, anywhere, on any device. The Library maintains a targeted, high quality print collection and is the custodian of several valuable special collections including the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in information discovery and resource use in response to complex enquiries received at the Service Desk or Online
  • Contribute to the creation of online resources and guides and participate in the delivery of training sessions
  • Provide advice on a range of routine and moderately complex copyright and open access issues
  • Plan and supervise team activities, overseeing processes and workflows
  • Contribute to the planning and review of quality assurance processes within the Library


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience and commitment to excellent customer service, including assisting a broad diversity of clients
  • Knowledge of trends in digital information, digital preservation, scholarly publishing and social media
  • High interpersonal, communication and written skills and ability to participate in a team
  • Ability to make effective presentations and produce high quality plans and reports
  • Knowledge of information sources and formats, and proven ability in searching databases and other web-based products and services
