About the Project
Urinary incontinence (UI) is highly prevalent in female athletes – one in three women across all sports and up to 80% of high-impact athletes experience symptoms. Symptoms of UI effect the participation and performance of female athletes across all ages and level of competition. Pelvic floor muscle training is a highly effective conservative management for curing/reducing UI in community dwelling women. There is potential to use this training to manage UI in female athletes, but this has not yet been tested. Our team will undertake innovative studies to investigate pelvic floor muscle response to training among female athletes.
