  • CSIRO Industry PhD Program (iPhD). A three-month industry engagement component with the industry partner and co-supervisor: Infrabuild Wire Pty Limited.
  • Full time, fixed term position located at CSIRO in Clayton, VIC and our Hawthorn campus. Incumbent may be required to travel to site (Infrabuild Wire, Mayfield, NSW) and Infrabuild’s other locations in Australia.
  • Stipend of $46,000 per annum for 3 and ½ years of full-time study plus + A project Expense and Development package of $13,000 per annum.


About the Scholarship
We have an exciting scholarship opportunity for a suitable candidate to undertake a PhD within Swinburne’s Department of Mechanical and Product Design Engineering. The successful candidate will contribute to the “Study of Cold Spray Ti Coated Mild Steel Oxidation with and without Electro Plastic Treatment project”, which aims to study the mechanisms of steel substrate protection at lower film builds and possible bimetallic corrosion interactions between the deposited Ti and steel substrate. The key research areas of the project include building on results that led to significant improvement in durability of mild steel via a new robotic additive coating process at high thicknesses of deposited titanium. 

Focusing on applied research that benefits industry by solving real-world challenges, The CSIRO Industry PhD Program (iPhD) aims to produce the next generation of innovation leaders with the skills to work at the interface of research and industry in Australia.

About you 
To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Meet participating university PhD admission requirements. 
  • Meet university English language requirements. 
  • Not have previously completed a PhD. 
  • Be able to commence the Program in the year of the offer. 
  • Enroll as a full-time PhD student. 
  • Previous study in an appropriate area of Engineering, Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing
