PhD scholarship in time resolved serial crystallography (X-ray physics and biochemistry))

Updated: about 1 month ago
Deadline: 2024-03-31T00:00:00Z

New PhD position open in time resolved serial crystallography and protein dynamics.

Potential projects: Making molecular movies of DsbA dynamics (with Begona Heras' lab at La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS)), developing time-resolved serial microcrystallography at the Australian Synchrotron and at the upcoming ASU Compact XFEL at Arizona State University (https://physics.asu.edu/innitiativecenter/CFXEL).

These are interdisciplinary projects with opportunities for overseas experiments at X-ray free-electron lasers and 3rd/4th generation synchrotron sources (you will have the opportunity to carry out exciting experiments in Germany, Switzerland, France, USA, Japan and/or Korea, as well as Australia!)

Domestic and international applications close 31st March.

We have funding for at least one domestic student to start mid 2024. International applicants are very welcome, but the scholarship won't cover tuition fees.

Top ups: There's also an opportunity for a scholarship top-up for the Aus Synchrotron project, thanks to the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering: with up to $9K pa. See: https://www.ainse.edu.au/postgraduate/  for more details. Applications for the AINSE PGRA award close 15th April.

Exchange program: There are also opportunities for joint projects with the European XFEL which include 6+ months in Hamburg, Germany (physics, engineering, biochemistry projects).
