- PHD SUPRA research project within established School of Engineering
- Contribute to Swinburne’s progressive lunar research
- Located at our Hawthorn campus
About the Job
Working on this PhD research project, you will be part of the movement of Australia’s aim to become a leader in lunar exploration. The project works to enhance Swinburne’s research on electrolysis and solar thermal processing of materials and our recent work on producing a usable material feedstock for construction processes and increasing technological viability of lunar missions.
On this project, you will work on three main targets:
- Identifying sustainable materials to be used on the Moon, considering constraints of the lunar environment and the economic reality of transporting materials to the Moon
- Enhance our already progressive lunar research of thermal processing and/or electrolysis of regolith into usable construction materials to potentially enable self-supported venturing on the Moon
- Strategize methods of recycling and reforming materials on the Moon to serve new or adjusted purposes to facilitate pre-selection of equipment and technologies with the highest efficacy under lunar conditions
