About the School of Social and Political Science

This project will be located in the School of Social and Political Sciences.  The School is home to a dedicated team of academic and professional staff in the disciplines of Sociology and Social Policy, Anthropology and Development Studies, Criminology, and Political Science.  This project will be located in the Sociology and Social Policy Discipline.  Through excellence in teaching and research, and in partnership with our communities, we are:

Through our research and teaching our ambition is to redefine the world and change what matters.  This project will be co-supervised with project team members in the Disability and Health Unit located in the School of Global and Population Health at the University of Melbourne. 


About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated PhD student whose PhD project will be integrated into a programme of research funded through the National Health and Medical Research Council Synergy scheme titled: Interventions for better life-time mental health outcomes for young Australians with disability.  The student will join a team of academics from multiple disciplines and young people with disability to identify how mental health outcomes can be improved for young people with disability.


About You

You will have the ability to work effectively with team members and other students within a diverse working environment. You will have excellent oral and written English communication skills as well as be highly motivated, self-disciplined, and able to work independently, with clear goals that lead to highly quality outcomes.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Demonstrated research skills and experience in either quantitative or qualitative research, or mixed methods
  • Demonstrated professional and collegial behaviour and capacity to work well in a team
  • Applicants must fulfil the Doctor of Philosophy in Arts admission criteria for the University of Melbourne, including meeting English language requirements, and demonstrating excellent capacity and potential for research.
