PhD. position in AI-based framework for a drone system application

Professor Richard Han and his research team in the School of Computing at Macquarie University in beautiful Sydney, Australia are seeking highly motivated and technically expert students for a 3-year Ph.D. conducting cutting-edge research on drone systems. Preference will be given to students with a master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field with proven expertise in computer systems, such as an understanding of networking and operating systems, robotic control algorithms, and the ability to rapidly build, deploy and test both software and hardware systems relevant to drones and UAVs.  The student will need to learn quickly and show good versatility, possibly expanding as needed into new areas such as digital signal processing and/or machine learning algorithms.  


Desirable skills include:

• Engineering/computer science experience building, programming, and testing embedded systems such as IOT/mobile devices, drones, and/or robots.  This could include experience with ROS, C/C++, Python, MATLAB, etc.

• Understanding of how mathematical algorithms are applied in practical systems, such as feedback control in autonomous drones/robots, or computer vision for navigation.

• Experience with location navigation systems, such as GPS, indoor localization, etc.

• Ability to work well in teams.

• Record of self-driven creativity.
