The Adelaide Graduate Research School (AGRS) and DunnART Productions are partnering to create a number of exciting internship opportunities for University of Adelaide PhD students, to work on projects raising the public’s environmental literacy.


DunnART Productions is a collective of environmentally-focused creative artists and wildlife biologists who aim to excite Australians about their natural environments, learn how to be good stewards for sustainability, and increase environmental literacy through innovative, interactive, and empathetic artforms.


DunnArt Productions is currently offering internship opportunities to PhD students from a wide range of fields: wildlife biology, media, Virtual Reality, 3D, animation, puppetry, multi-disciplinary artforms, ecology, environmental management, environmental science, science, education, communication, marketing, business, Virtual Reality, 3D, animation, puppetry, theatre, digital art, scientific inventions, and innovative technology. They are also open to suggested new projects suited specifically to the PhD candidates' current research topics.


The successful candidates will undertake a minimum of 60 FTE business days of research and development with the organisation. The AGRS will support eligible students with a research internship scholarship (for 60 business days at the standard RTP rate).


About the project
The nature of the research and development activities for the research internship may include:

• Drawing on research literature, databases, fieldwork, and relevant theoretical frameworks
• Undertaking fieldwork through biological and other organisations connected to DunnART Productions
• Undertaking research trials in a broad range of areas
• Meaningful assistance in research and policy development with a focus on communicating and marketing wildlife biology through primarily innovative artforms
• Writing or preparing an investigative report that aims to support the organisation in providing cutting edge and accessible content of the most accurately up-to-date information and awareness
• Using databases to research and devise programs to better capture relevant data.


Expected research outcomes may include:
• Contributing to life changing research and high value projects raising awareness on global issues
• Assisting DunnART Productions in developing and promoting groundbreaking new content and delivery
• Learning about their chosen areas of research in practical and detail driven methods over an extended and intense timeframe
• Gaining professional industry experience with experts in their field and others outside their usual area of expertise for enhanced collaborative initiatives
• Acquiring access to a multidisciplinary R&D team, personalised and accessible training and experience, and network with industry professionals while learning through exposure to interactively observing a national business in operation
• Engaging in solving real-world problems requiring real solutions, like Australia’s national lack of knowledge of their diverse species and by educating in innovative, immersive, and interactive methodologies
• Applying research skills to cutting-edge projects communicating about critical issues facing Australians and our ecology today.


The selected applicant, their supervisor, and DunnART Productions will have the opportunity to discuss the nature of research and development activities and working arrangements post-selection. An expected commencement date is 1 March 2023.

Eligibility:
The PhD student must be:
• within the first 18 months of their candidature,
• willing to undertake the research internship for a minimum duration of 60 FTE business days,
• making satisfactory progress, and
• undertaking research in an area aligned with the proposed research internship project
