Employment Type: Full-time

Duration: 2-year fixed-term appointment

Remuneration: $34,013.00 per annum full-time rate

The Opportunity

Expressions of interest are sought from outstanding candidates for Master study in Materials Science and Engineering.

Master project - pH sensor technology for cell culture systems

Monitoring of pH during cell manufacturing processes is essential to scale up cell production. Current pH measurement technology has limitations with respect to performing continuous measurements without pre-calibration. The project will develop resonating beam MEMS and electrochemical pH sensor chips suitable for inclusion in cell culture flasks or storage vials that communicate with a handheld reader and provide a signal when the culture medium is outside of a specified pH range without the need for calibration.

The ARC Training Centre for Cell & Tissue Engineering Technologies (ARC CTET) is a new Research Centre led by Monash University and QUT in collaboration with 22 industry partner organisations. The successful applicant will work closely with industry partner Bluechiip, a Melbourne-based Biotechnology company providing tracking solutions for biosamples in the health and life sciences industries.

Applicants should have previous research and laboratory experience in related fields such as polymer materials production, characterisation, biomaterial development, cell culture and bioassays. Applicants must show excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and the potential to conduct self-motivated research. They should have an Honours Degree (or equivalent).

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, either in-person or online. The interviews will be conducted in English.
