Other information
Professor Mark Lyons was UTS Professor of Social Economy, having worked at UTS from 1975 to 2009. He was a pioneer in the study of the not-for-profit sector and wrote what is considered the definitive text in the field, The Third Sector: The Contribution of Nonprofit and Cooperative Enterprises in Australia (2001). Professor Lyons was a man of great social conscience and believed it was crucial to value and promote the third sector, not just charities but advocacy groups, lobby groups, environment groups and other non-government organisations because they contribute to building a strong and stable society and are the basis for the continued health of our democracy.
