SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES
- 2 to 6 months in 2014/15
- Fellowship amount: up to $35,000 (dependent on experience and length of stay)
- Closing date: 4 November 2013
The University of Western Australia invites applications for the inaugural Margaret Braine Fellowship in Classics and Ancient History. The purpose of the Fellowship is to bring to the University a scholar working in the field of Classics and Ancient History to undertake research leading to scholarly publication.
UWA has been teaching Classics and Ancient History since its foundation a century ago, and particular strengths in staffing and resources currently exist in aerial archaeology, Hellenistic history, papyrology, neo-Latin and Byzantine studies, but applicants may propose research in any area of the classical world. The successful applicant may take up the position at any point during 2014 or 2015, and will hold the Fellowship for between two and six months from that time.
Applicants will be expected to have a completed doctorate, or else a significant record of publication, in the proposed research area. Apart from conducting research leading to scholarly publication, a Fellow is expected to give the Margaret Braine Memorial lecture, participate in the fortnightly research seminars of the Classics and Ancient History discipline group, and acknowledge the University in the by-line of any publications resulting from research done while holding the Fellowship. Provided these duties are performed, the Fellowship may be held in conjunction with other sources of income.
The University may negotiate on the payment of a return airfare to Perth, depending on the length of the Fellowship and the appointee's circumstances.
To discuss any aspect of the Fellowship potential applicants are invited to contact the Chair of Classics and Ancient History, Dr Neil O'Sullivan, on +61 8 6488 2163 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org
Application Details: Applications must be submitted online. Full details of the position's responsibilities and the selection criteria are outlined in the position description and applicants should clearly demonstrate they meet the selection criteria.
Applicants should submit a proposal (of no more than three pages) of research to be conducted while holding the Fellowship, a CV (including publications), and two referees' names and contact details. They should also state at what point in 2014/15 they would like to take up the Fellowship, and the length of time they would like to hold it (i.e. from 2-6 months).
Please see the position description prior to applying.
