Learning Environments is the central teaching and learning support group enabling the University’s scholarly and learning community to enrich and extend academic achievement through the effective use of world-class learning environments, technologies and media. This role also will work closely with The Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education (mCSHE) which conducts research and professional development in the fields of higher education teaching and learning, research, engagement and leadership. Furthermore, it partners with Chancellery and Learning Environments to support the implementation of Flexible Academic Program (FlexAP) projects. About the Role


As the Learning Designer, you will be responsible for implementing aspects of the curriculum enhancements to a wide range of university subjects with large cohorts which are part of the Flexible Academic Programming initiative (FlexAP) . You will work on Learning Environments  led projects and projects led by Melbourne Centre for Study in Higher Education (mCSHE) . You will contribute to the design and development of new and revitalised subjects under FlexAP and other strategic projects. You will report to a Senior Learning Designer, Learning Environments, under broad direction of the Associate Director, Learning Environments. 

In a typical week at work, you may: 


  • Work with Learning Environments and mCSHE staff to apply learning design and TEL frameworks as appropriate to all subject design and development initiatives related to the FlexAP and other strategic projects 
  • Collaborate with Subject Coordinators and academic staff within projects to design and develop, engaging and high-quality learning experiences within LMS sites using enterprise educational technologies
  • Scope technical and functional requirements specifications to design and develop robust, intuitive, engaging and easily navigable LMS subject sites, online interactivity and assessments for a high-quality learning experience utilising the enterprise learning technologies 
  • Use expert learning design expertise coupled with enterprise-supported learning and teaching technologies to build effective and reliable learning experiences on the University’s central LMS 

Please note we have two (2) full-time (1 FTE) fixed term positions available until December 2023. 


About You


As the successful candidate you will have excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes. You are highly organised and detail oriented with a strong work ethic, commitment to continuous improvement, openness to new ideas and creative approaches to problem solving.  

Ideally, you will further have: 


  • An appropriate tertiary qualification with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training 
  • Demonstrated experience in applying educational theories and frameworks, educational design principles and practices, and contemporary assessment techniques which support the development and delivery of excellent learning and assessment experiences and learning activities 
  • Ability to work with and interpret stakeholder requirements in the design, development and build of educational resources, activities or subjects utilising enterprise educational technologies, including a Learning Management System (LMS), for an optimum student experience, coherent student journey and considering accessibility needs 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and developing online and or face-to-face professional development and facilitating professional learning activities to support and advance the effective use of digital technologies and application of learning design in subjects 
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a team and providing support and guidance to manage critical and competing priorities in a highly dynamic and flexible environment
