Overview

The John Heine Memorial Scholarship for Women in Engineering has been established to increase participation of women in Engineering and support a student who has demonstrated a passion and personal potential and commitment to undertaking a degree course in engineering.

The Scholarship is established in memory of John Heine who did much to advance the cause of the metal trades industry, and is supported by the Ernest Heine Family Foundation.


Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be an Australian citizen; and
  • Be female identifying; and
  • Be commencing their first year in one of the following UTS Courses: 
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours);
    •  Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice course; 
    • combined Engineering (Honours) degree at UTS; and
  • Be either a current or non-current school leaver with an ATAR (or equivalent) of 80 (including bonus points) or above. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants will be considered with an ATAR (or equivalent of 69 or above) or have received an offer through the Jumbunna Direct Entry Program; and
  • Must apply for this Scholarship using the UTS online Scholarships Application form; and
  • Must be available to attend an interview in person (face-to-face or online).

Selection process
  • Academic merit in the academic qualification used as the basis of admission.
  • As demonstrated in the scholarship application and interview:
  • Motivation and commitment to succeed in their chosen Engineering course
  • Initiative in extra-curricular and non-academic activities
  • Provision of a written reference on official school/organisation letterhead from an independent (non-family/friend) person who can provide informed comment about the applicant’s achievements and how they meet the selection criteria.

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to demonstrate financial need and/or other educational barriers as assessed by the University Admissions Centre Equity Scholarship applications
