Fixed term position until for 3 years

This research position will contribute to increasing productivity of out livestock industries by focusing on productivity, resilience, wellbeing and sustainable management systems.

The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences provides world-class, outcome-based education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a research environment. Based at the Roseworthy Campus, 50km north of the Adelaide CBD and minutes from Gawler, the school is situated on a 1600 ha property that includes a working farm, full service Veterinary Health Centre teaching clinics, and a range of general purpose and specialist teaching and research facilities. 

The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences seeks to appoint an emerging research leader in ruminant productivity and wellbeing, preferably with some experience with student supervision. The appointee will be expected to support existing research projects and develop new research projects and programs in their discipline, whilst contributing to interdisciplinary research within the Department of Production Animal Health, the Davies Livestock Research Centre and wider academic community. The focus is on livestock resilience, health and wellbeing, sustainable productivity and capacity building and adoption. It is expected that the applicant be part of the Department and Centre, and contribute to the innovative and collaborative culture.

To be successful you will need:

  • PhD or equivalent degree / experience in the field of ruminant productivity, reproductive or stress physiology.
  • Demonstrated research excellence in ruminant productivity and/or livestock resilience including a publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract HERDC eligible research funding, as evidenced by being a named investigator on successful grants / projects.
  • Strong organisational, time management, intercultural and interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to lead research projects.
  • Commitment to working with and communicating research results to livestock producers coupled with a strong knowledge of livestock production systems.
